New Assays Expand Cytokine Testing for Transplant and Immunocompromised Patients

By LabMedica International staff writers
Posted on 20 Jul 2026

Eurofins Viracor has introduced three plasma-based assays—CXCL9 (Test Code 33607), CXCL10 (Test Code 33609), and interleukin-18 (IL-18) (Test Code 33611)—expanding its immunology testing menu for transplant and immunocompromised populations. More...

The assays are available as individual test orders and may be combined into custom cytokine panels to fit protocolized workflows. The launch extends the company’s cytokine testing capabilities across its broader transplant and immunology portfolio.

The assays provide quantitative measurement of CXCL9, CXCL10, and IL-18 in EDTA plasma. These biomarkers are characterized as key Th1-polarized immune signaling mediators that participate in T cell–mediated immune activation, inflammatory signaling, and the transition from innate to adaptive immunity. The signaling pathways measured by these markers are being investigated in relation to allograft injury, acute rejection, and chronic graft dysfunction.

Operational features include a 24-hour turnaround time from receipt of the specimen for orders received by 11:00 a.m. CST, Monday through Saturday. The offering specifies EDTA plasma collection with established shipping and stability protocols to facilitate minimally invasive sampling and streamlined logistics. Assay ranges with population-based reference intervals are provided to support interpretation.

Eurofins Viracor brings more than 40 years of diagnostic expertise in infectious disease, immunology, and allergy testing for immunocompromised and critically ill patients. The company emphasizes the delivery of accurate, timely, and actionable results while maintaining a focus on the patients represented by each specimen.

Eurofins Viracor is a subsidiary of Eurofins Scientific (EUFI.PA), a global provider of bioanalytical testing and genomic services.
