Erba Mannheim (London, UK) showcased some exciting new launches and provided a preview of NEXUS, its future generation of hematology, chemistry and immunoassay systems, at the MEDICA 2019 International Trade Fair on November 18-21 in Düsseldorf, Germany. MEDICA is the world's largest annual medical technology trade fair and provides the medical device industry with a central market for innovative products and systems that result in an important contribution to the efficiency and quality of patient care. The combination of product shows with international congresses, forums, as well as expert workshops, and the exchange of professional views make MEDICA a meeting point for international professionals from various fields in the medical sector.

Erba Mannheim is an emerging player in the global IVD market and offers innovative solutions for lab diagnostics. At MEDICA 2019, the company showcased some of its new launches, including its new EC90 electrolyte analyzer with maintenance-free electrodes in an all-in-one sensor cartridge that is aimed at labs of all sizes. The EC 90 directly measures Na+, Cl-, K+ and Ca2+ from whole blood, plasma, serum and pre-diluted urine using a sensor incorporating thick film technology. The ‘plug and play’ sensor cartridge is integrated into a new reagent pack capable of performing up to 3,000 samples, with a market leading on-board lifetime of three months. No maintenance or cleaning of the pack is required, and waste is self-contained. The EC 90 can analyze samples in 35 seconds, with a typical throughput of 90 samples/hour, and has 35µL and 70µL sample volume measuring modes. Results can be given with a resolution of 0.1mmol/L for Na+ and Cl-, 0.01mmol/L for K+ and Ca2+, and are reproducible with CV< 1%. Small and lightweight (337 x 273 x 422mm, <8kg), the EC 90 features an 8.5-inch color touchscreen display, LIS connectivity, automatic calibration, two USB ports, on-board 24 column thermal printer and a serial port.

Erba Mannheim also showcased the ELAN 30s, a new fully automated compact benchtop ELISA microstrip processor with easy-to-use software, including QC reports and the ability to perform six different tests simultaneously. ELAN 30s eliminates the need for a ELISA reader and washer, making it the ultimate automated solution for labs with small, medium and varied ELISA workloads.

Also on display at this year’s MEDICA was Erba Mannheim’s XL 200 fully automated random access clinical chemistry analyzer with a throughput of 200 tests/hour (photometric test) and 400 tests/hour with ISE (Na/K/Cl/Li). The XL 200 offers 30 position reagent tray with on-board cooling, convenient software and an extensive quality control menu.

At MEDICA 2019, Erba Mannheim provided a preview of its new NEXUS advanced automation range. NEXUS will provide labs with a modular solution designed to deliver mid-scale, advanced-automation across immunology, clinical chemistry and hematology, using a powerful array of technology such as advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, thick film ISE and high sensitivity magnetic beads for CLIA analysis.
