Image: The myTAIHEART test is a powerful non-invasive test that uses a small sample of blood to determine if a patient is at a low or increased risk of rejecting their heart transplant. myTAIHEART works by measuring the fraction of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) present in the bloodstream that is attributable to the transplanted heart. An elevated donor fraction (DF%) is associated with an increased risk of acute cellular rejection (Photo courtesy of TAI Diagnostics).

Heart Transplant Monitoring Test Validated

A heart transplant, or a cardiac transplant, is a surgical transplant procedure performed on patients with end-stage heart failure or severe coronary artery disease. Noninvasive risk assessment for rejection in heart transplant recipients, both adult and pediatric, is an imperative and urgent clinical need. More...

Microbiota’s Role Explored in Colorectal Cancer Among the Young

Colorectal cancer incidence has been declining for several decades in people over 55, in part because of the increased use of screening for the disease, particularly with colonoscopy which can find and remove polyps before they become cancerous. More...

Technique Predicts Cancer Recurrence Risk for Melanoma Patients

Many primary melanomas can be cured by having this lesion removed, but melanoma can also recur and spread; an analysis of the removed lesion can offer some information on the likelihood that the cancer will recur. More...

Imaging Mass Cytometry Uncovers Novel Breast Cancer Subgroups

Changing the course of how diseases are treated and ultimately cured requires a comprehensive understanding of complex cellular phenotypes and their interrelationships in the spatial context of the tissue microenvironment. More...

Ovarian Cancer Protein Contributes to Alzheimer`s Disease Neurodegeneration

Alzheimer's disease is a complex neurological disorder with pathological hallmarks of hyperamyloidosis (senile plaques), neurofibrillary tangles containing hyperphosphorylated tau, and extensive neurodegeneration in the brain. More...

Homologous Recombination Defects Prevalent in African-American Cancer Patients

In the USA, African-Americans have the highest cancer incidence and lowest survival across multiple cancer types. The reasons for these persistent trends are not clear. More...

Genome-Wide Association Leads to Heart Failure Risk Loci

Heart failure (HF) affects more than 30 million individuals worldwide and its prevalence is rising. HF-associated morbidity and mortality remain high despite therapeutic advances, with 5-year survival averaging around 50%. More...
