State-of-the-Art Automated Laboratory Systems Highlighted at the 2015 AACC Annual Meeting

Top-of-the-line automated diagnostic systems are highlighted in Booth 2409 at the 2015 AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo (Atlanta, GA, USA).

Beckman Coulter Diagnostics (Brea, CA, USA) is displaying its state-of-the-art laboratory instruments at this year's meeting. Particular emphasis is being placed on the Power Express automation system for general clinical chemistry and the MicroScan WalkAway system for the microbiology lab.

Power Express is a connected clinical automation solution that consolidates all core disciplines—chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, and coagulation—into a single automated line. Power Express performs multiple functions including sample login, centrifugation, decapping, aliquotting, presentation of samples for connected instruments, recapping, storing in ambient or refrigerated storage modules, and sorting to outlets. Intelligent sample management reduces variability and increases predictability because dynamic sample routing is based on test ordered and analyzers availability. Samples can crisscross and loop-back on track to analyzers, and smart carrier management ensures that high-throughput analyzers are optimized. Barcode sample reading at each sample aspiration maintains accuracy with positive patient identification.

The WalkAway plus microbiology system is the fourth generation of proven WalkAway technology and reliability. This platform delivers gold-standard accuracy for microorganism identification and susceptibility testing. It enables simultaneous processing of conventional, rapid, and specialty panels on a single, automated platform and delivers accurate resistance detection for emerging pathogens, including VISA, VRSA, and MRSA. The WalkAway plus System includes LabPro Information Management software designed to simplify workflow and minimize technologist interaction while accommodating differing regional and institutional environments through extensive customization features.

Visitors to the Beckman Coulter Diagnostics booth will be shown how the company is helping laboratories balance better patient care and efficiency to achieve goals such as standardized processes to achieve increased capacity while minimizing errors and reducing turnaround time to improve physician confidence.

“The American Association of Clinical Chemistry Annual Meeting allows us the opportunity to share with the diverse diagnostics laboratory industry how we partner to move healthcare forward,” said Arnd Kaldowski, president of Beckman Coulter Diagnostics. “This year, we are particularly eager to share our newest product offerings and demonstrate to laboratories in a unique, interactive way, how with personalized, expert attention, clinical data management tools and the Danaher Business System, laboratories can to drive continuous improvement and sustainment in today’s healthcare landscape.”
