Routine blood typing and other interrelated tests can be performed on a fully automated, high-throughput system. The instrument is adaptable for any immunohematology procedure and easily connected to the host system, with compliant software and intelligent robotics.

The flexible system allows the operator to perform the following tests: blood grouping, reverse grouping, phenotyping, crossmatching, antibody screening, antibody identification, and direct antiglobulin tests.

The IH-1000 system has the capacity to stock reagent supplies of 240 ID-Cards, 28 vials of test cells and diluents as required. The instrument processes without restocking of reagents for an average of six to nine hours, depending on the test profile chosen. The appliance automatically shows the level of the reagent supplies and additional reagents can be introduced at any time. The status of the supplies is checked by the device itself or from a remote location, for example from a Wi-Fi connection.

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., (Hercules, CA, USA) manufactures the IH-1000 which offers integrated quality control and validation, intuitive software, and walk-away convenience for blood banking laboratories. The IH 1000, designed for the blood transfusion laboratory, utilizes the industry accepted gold standard ID-System gel card technology. The instrument has two independent pipetting stations, three centrifuges, and an arm dedicated solely to card transport. There are automated maintenance steps; automatic tube diameter detection and tube decap checks. The machine has a built in integrated back-up system, with pipettors and centrifuges that compensate each other.

John Goetz, Bio-Rad Vice President said, "Our customers who have already worked with the IH 1000 during our testing phase have said the system delivers the highest level of automation as well as improved workflow advantages, without sacrificing the quality of the result."
