In a move that will provide the company with a new European distribution network, Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc. (Waltham, MA, USA), has acquired Viva Diagnostika (Cologne, Germany).

Viva Diagnostika is a distributor of professional diagnostic products in Germany and has established a distribution network for its existing diagnostic products, including the product lines acquired from Abbott Laboratories (Abbot Park, IL, USA) in 2003, as well as it own range of cardiac products in development.

Inverness Medical Innovations is a developer of advanced diagnostic devices with a focus on women's health, cardiology, and infectious disease. The company is a leading supplier of pregnancy and fertility/ovulation tests and rapid point-of-care diagnostics. The acquisition will give the company an established distribution network for its products in Germany, which is expected to be the largest market in Europe for various cardiac markers for which Inverness plans to introduce diagnostic products.
