A strategic alliance in the field of in vitro diagnostics has been formed by DiaSorin S.r.l. (Saluggia, Italy) and Byk Gulden (Constance, Germany). The two companies will cooperate at an international level on the further enhancement and marketing of the Liaison immunoassay analyzer developed by Byk Gulden.

The Liaison analyzer will be the main instrument platform for current and new diagnostic assays from both companies, combining a range of applications. DiaSorin has focused its diagnostics research over the past 20 years on hepatitis and other infectious diseases. Following the creation of commercial joint ventures in Germany and Turkey, the companies anticipate a growing market presence that will result in increased profits. Both firms will try to coordinate their activities in other countries to maximize market penetration.

In December, DiaSorin announced its acquisition by a private group of investors, including some senior members of DiaSorin's management, from American Standard Companies, Inc. (Piscataway, NJ, USA).
