A new application for digital devices assists in the recognition and classification of blood cells, making it easier for university students and clinical laboratory personnel to learn the basics of cell morphology.

The CellAtlas new application of Apple iPhone and iPod Touch contains mini lectures in English written by experts in hematology. The application gives the technologist access to high-resolution classified cell images complemented by a written description. The CellAtlas reference library provides laboratory personnel with images that can be compared quickly and easily to blood or body fluid cells they are viewing at a microscope.

CellaVision (Lund, Sweden), which develops and sells products for the routine analysis of blood and body fluids, introduced the new application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices to compliment its digital cell morphology portfolio.

CellQuiz is included in the application to test the user's knowledge in cell morphology. Additionally, the user will have access to links and media that will show how CellaVision systems and software can replace manual microscopy in the hematology lab by saving labor and improving quality.

"It is a pleasure to be able to present the clinical laboratory market with a CellaVision iPhone Application. CellAtlas is an excellent educational tool and reference library for laboratory personnel and students. By making the tool easily accessible we hope to get more laboratories interested in our digital solution for cell analysis,” says Yvonne Mårtensson, CellaVision's CEO.
