Tecan (Männedorf, Switzerland) highlighted its lab automation solutions for coronavirus testing and research at the 2021 AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo which aimed to explore the cutting-edge science and technology shaping the future of laboratory medicine.

At AACC 2021, Tecan exhibited its COVID-19 product portfolio that is designed to boost throughputs, turnaround times and user safety of a variety of clinical and research workflows. Tecan presented its library preparation kits and DreamPrep NGS workstation that offer a complete solution for consistent high throughput automated library prep. The company’s Trio RNA-Seq Library Preparation Kit – on the DreamPrep NGS workstation provides consistent, high throughput sample-to-sequence libraries for detection, surveillance and evolution studies in labs. Tecan also showcased its Revelo RNA-Seq Library Preparation Kit which offers highly sensitive detection and characterization of SARS-CoV-2 in nasal swab samples.

Additionally, Tecan highlighted its solutions to scale up RNA extraction for SARS-CoV-2 on the DreamPrep NAP workstation featuring Zymo Research. It also demonstrated how labs can simplify nucleic acid extraction with preprogrammed workflows optimized for the Quick- DNA/RNA Viral MagBead kit, to purify up to 96 samples in under two hours. Tecan also demonstrated how labs can increase sample throughput for SARS-CoV-2 research with its semi-automated Resolvex A200 positive pressure solution for filter-based RNA/DNA extraction. This compact benchtop system reduces hands-on time compared to manual approaches and spin columns, for fast processing in 96-well formats. Tecan demonstrated how labs can effortlessly set up fully automated PCR reactions for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA, guided by a simple touchscreen interface and straightforward software wizard, reducing training requirements.

Tecan showcased its range of ready-to-use SARS-CoV-2 ELISA kits for the qualitative detection of IgA, IgG and IgM in serum or plasma samples. On display was the company’s ready-to-use SARS-Cov-2 IgA, IgG and IgM ELISA kits, combined with automation on the Freedom EVO and IVD-D 98/79/EC compliant Freedom EVOlyzer liquid handling platforms, that can help accelerate research. Other products highlighted at the event included easy-to-use, reliable software for getting the most from Tecan instruments such as the Tecan Connect Mobile app that alert the mobile device when any user interactions are needed, or the instrument status has changed; Introspect cloud-based usage counting software to measure and improve liquid handling efficiency; and Freedom EVOware, the company’s powerful state-of-the-art application software that enables all applications on Freedom EVO liquid handling workstations.
