Environmentally Friendly Ultrapure Water for Biotech Research

Highly purified water free of metal ions, pyrogens, and traces of enzymes such as nucleases and proteases is critical to all aspects of biotech research, and now it can be obtained using systems that are environmentally friendly.

Thermo Fisher Scientific (Milford, MA, USA) is a leading supplier of research equipment to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, hospitals and clinical diagnostic labs, universities, research institutions, and government agencies, as well as in environmental and process control industries. Recently Thermo Fisher has released a series of "green,” environmentally friendly water purification systems.

The systems are based on cartridges of high quality resin that provide ultrapure water while extending the lifetime of the cartridge itself. This reduces the need to reorder, ship, handle, and dispose of expired cartridges. Cartridge casings and endcaps are made from virgin polypropylene and are fully recyclable. Cartridges are produced in a clean environment, using environmentally friendly techniques that avoid the use of hazardous solvents and adhesives, which enables the plastic and resin to be recovered, reground, and reused.

All Thermo Scientific water purification units operate in a low energy mode after dispensing, reducing power consumption without sacrificing water quality.
