An upgraded and enhanced version of a well-proven system for the determination of particle size and shape has recently become available.

The new Retsch Technology (Haan, Germany) CAMSIZER P4 is the systematically enhanced and optimized version of the well-proven CAMSIZER system.

The CAMSIZER P4 operates on the principle of digital image analysis. The sample is transported to the measurement field via a vibratory feeder where the particles drop between a planar light source and two CCD cameras. The projected particle shadows are recorded at a rate of more than 60 images per second and analyzed. In this way almost every single particle in the bulk material flow is recorded and evaluated. It is therefore possible to measure a wide range of particles from 20 micrometers to 30 millimeters with extreme accuracy and without the necessity of switching measuring ranges or making adjustments.

Due to its extremely short exposure times, the LED strobe light source generates sharp and distortion-free images. The sharp contrast allows, at the same time, details of the surface structure of the particles may be seen with almost microscope-like clarity. The frequency of the light flashes is so high that the flashes are not visible to the naked eye.

The CAMSIZER P4's zoom camera provides maximum resolution down to the fine range, while the basic camera records larger particles and guarantees results with high statistical certainty. This ensures excellent reproducibility of the CAMSIZER measuring results, even if only a relatively small sample amount is available.

Complementing its software upgrades, the CAMSIZER P4's new software package offers additional evaluation possibilities, such as separate storage of all particle images in a data base or three-dimensional display of measurement results as scatter plots.
