A new two-dimensional (2D) gel imaging system has a fully motorized and automated light tight darkroom with high-resolution 8.3-megapixel image capture capability.

The fast capture time capability of the BioSpectrum 800, developed by UVP, LLC (Upland, CA, USA), combined with Nonlinear Dynamics' (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) SameSpots analysis software, is easy to use, and accelerates and simplifies the research lab workflow. The BioSpectrum 800 imaging system accommodates a variety of gel sizes, making it a less costly alternative to the more expensive and slower 2D laser scanner systems currently used today.

"The release of the new BioSpectrum 800 imaging system and the availability of the SameSpots analysis software allows UVP to provide the same world-class product, quality, and service to the 2D electrophoresis market that we have provided the 1D electrophoresis market since 1988,” commented Alexander Waluszko, vice president sales/marketing at UVP.

"SameSpots technology, with the remarkable combination of extreme ease of use and statistical power, is the best 2D analysis software and is the ideal match for our new BioSpectrum 800 imaging system,” according to Sean Gallagher, Ph.D., vice president and CTO of UVP.

Will Dracup, CEO of Nonlinear Dynamics said, "By distributing the BioSpectrum 800 with SameSpots, UVP can now offer their customers the ultimate solution for proteomics research. Together, the BioSpectrum 800 and SameSpots solutions offer huge speed improvements, giving scientists the ability to analyze enough replicates for true statistical power in only a matter of hours. Running enough replicates is key to generating robust and reliable data from your proteomics research--so it is great to be making this more accessible than ever before.”

Leighton Smith, president and CEO of UVP, commented, "The strategic relationship with Nonlinear Dynamics further strengthens UVP's commitment to offer life scientists the best imaging and analysis solutions available in the industry today. The combination of UVP's BioSpectrum 800 Imaging System and SameSpots Analysis Software provides our customers with a complete 2D imaging acquisition and analysis solution.”

UVP designs and manufactures a wide spectrum of instruments and imaging systems for life science applications. As a leading developer and manufacturer of ultraviolet products since 1932, UVP continues to provide products with a specialty in fluorescence and luminescence-based imaging applications in the molecular, cellular, and whole organism life sciences.
